Some Unlettered Comics Pages

Here are a few unletterered pages from my current project. It's trans erotica again, but with werewolves and swashbuckling. No werewolves in these pages, though. Just erotica. Watercolor and ink on 300 lb Fabriano Artistico watercolor paper. If all goes to plan, this will appear in Alphabet, an anthology to benefit Prism Comics.

Janey and the Missionaries Page 4

Here's the next part of this. I need to rethink lettering by hand.

You can read the whole thing (so far) at my comics Tumblr.

Janey and the Missionaries page 3

Here's the first page of the next Janey and the Missionaries sequence. This will be about two pages, too, like the first one. Brush and ink with some Pitt pen and digital clean-up. I really probably ought to rethink lettering these by hand...

Janey and the Missionaries page 2

Janey and the Missionaries Page 2
Here's page two of Janey and the Missionaries, in which the punchline resides. This is an open-ended comic. I don't know how long it will be. It's structured as a series of two page gag strips for a while, though, so don't feel like you have to wait on things. This might be easier to read at my comics site.

You can also embiggen it with this link.

Also: I'm going to be hitting the Patreon hard. I'm not doing nearly what I'd like to do with Patreon. If you're willing to be my patron, but don't want to pledge on a per post basis, you can still pledge. Just cap your donation at whatever is comfortable when you sign up.

Janey and the Missionaries page 1

This is the first page of a new comics project for me. Brush and ink on Bristol. This should run about 14 or 16 pages. I probably shouldn't be lettering this by hand, but whatever. I'm fairly happy with this page. It's got a nice balance of elements and the characters are distinctly individual, which is important to me. Here's a big version.

Exile Master Post

The Exile is unweildy to read on blogger, so I thought I'd gather it together in one master post. Now that it's finished, it's not too horrible. If you'd prefer a traditional webcomics interface, try my comics tumblr.

Euphoria

Euphoria by Christianne Benedict Page 1

Euphoria by Christianne Benedict Page 2

This is slightly autobiographical. For the first two years I was taking estrogen, I usually got a wave of euphoria as it hit my blood stream. I still get that feeling occasionally, but it has tapered off some over time as I've gotten used to it. In any event, this is brush and ink on bristol. Mostly hand-lettered, too, because I'm a glutton for punishment.

Exile Page 15

So, after being waylaid by plagues of insects, pestilence, penury, and self-loathing, this is finally done. There will be another page of this eventually once the forthcoming Kickstarter resolves because I need a filler page to make the double-page spread on page 7 and 8 printable as such. It doesn't affect the story at all, so if it never gets funded for print, it'll never get drawn, either, and no one will be the wiser. There will also be a related piece of art--probably a watercolor painting--for a cover for the print edition. But that's all for the future.

Many thanks to Katie Zall who was very patient with this process given the various disasters that befell me over the last year. Many thanks, also, to everyone who read this story and offered feedback. In particular, thanks go to Shelly Jarenski, Renee Knipe, and J. Luis Rivera who all contributed something to the project.

As always, you can read the entire thing at once on the Exile master post, or, if you prefer, I've set up a webcomics tumblr if you'd like to read this and my other comics in a common webcomics interface. Entirely up to you.  If you'd like to support my comics, consider pledging to my Patreon. If you're intimidated by all the stuff I post every month, you can cap your pledge at whatever is comfortable for you. Regardless, this story will remain free to read on the web given that my target readership is as destitute as I am.

Next? Hell if I know. I have some ideas...

Exile Page 14

This page has been done for a bit. I've been holding onto it like an idiot on the assumption that I can get better value out of it depending on when I post it thanks to the way that Patreon works. I'm an idiot, because it doesn't freaking matter. If I posted this when it was done, it would have kicked one of my other art posts into this slot. So Katie can get a check from me and all will be ducky. There's one-ish page left of this story and I should have it done in a day or two. As usual, you can read the entire thing at once here. This page is a return to explicit sex, so it's behind the cut.

Exile page 13

The Exile of Natalie Rios page 13

Here's the next page of "The Exile of Natalie Rios". Mostly brush and ink on Bristol board. I don't think I used pens for much of this. I should be finishing this project up pretty soon. I hope. This is another relatively safe-for-work page. This is getting to be a habit. This page is considerably different from what Katie wrote for me. It's one of the pages I re-wrote in order to draw it more easily.

As always, the master post for this story is here if you need to catch up.

Exile Page 12

The Exile of Natalie Rios by Christianne Benedict and Rachel K. Zall

As usual, this was much delayed by real-world obligations, but relatively safe for work for a change. Not even any bad language!

This is substantially different from what Katie wrote for this page (and the next two, for that matter). The content was all there in the script, but it was arranged in a way that would have been very difficult for me to draw. I asked if she minded if I re-wrote parts of this then bounced it off of her. She was more than receptive to my ideas. This is the way collaboration works, and Katie has been a complete joy to work with.

The first panel is mostly Pitt pens, while the rest is brush and ink. Plus lots of white-out and digital corrections. More than I would like.

The master post for the Exile with all pages is here.

Exile page 11

The Exile of Natalie Rios page 11

Way behind on this. Pesky other obligations. Mostly brush and ink on Bristol board. A rare page from this that's actually more or less safe for work, depending on your workplace's tolerance of the word "fuck." Katie Zall has been very patient with me over the course of this project. She's a saint, I tells ya.

Exile Page 10

This is a redo of a previous page. Long story, short, I screwed up. Anyway, hopefully, I can get back into the comics groove now. I've been struggling with it. Comics are a fucking grind most of the time.

Exile, page 9

This has been finished for a while. Katie asked me to hold off posting this while she runs a fundraiser on her tumblr. If you like queer erotica, she's offering stories as an incentive. In any case, back to this. Brush and ink and typeset, mostly, though I also used a Pitt brush pen and my fingerprints. This page was fun to draw.

Work in Progress on the Exile

A part of the porntastic comics page I’m drawing right now. Work in progress (unerased pencils and all). Mostly posted to assure my collaborator, Katie Zall, that I am indeed back at it and that she hasn’t written me anything I can’t really draw. I'm hoping to push through and finish The Exile by the end of next week. We'll see if I keep to that.

Tally ho.

Voices Against Bullying, Page 3

Here's the third page from my story for this anthology. I wasn't going to show any more of this just yet, but this page is so much better than the previous two that I couldn't hold off. There's a weird kind of alchemy at work when you draw comics on a regular basis. Something eventually clicks and your pages get dramatically better. I wish I could bottle it. I think in this case there are three things at work: First, I'm mostly over a case of bursitis that has been plaguing the elbow of my drawing arm. Second, I've regained enough freedom of movement to go back to drawing with a brush. Third, I think I hit the critical mass point where improvement comes in bunches. I remember the last time that happened to me. The results were dramatic. Anyway, enjoy.

Voices Against Bullying

I'm contributing to an anthology about bullying this month. These are the first two pages of my story. Pitt pens on Bristol board with digital lettering. The title font is Benguat Frisky. Everything else comes from Blambot. This will run five pages. I probably won't post much more than this, since this is going to be published. Should be out sometime in June. I'm still working on The Exile, btw, but I've had a couple of setbacks with that story. I hope to have it finished by the end of May.
